The latest footage from Al Jazeera, released on 30 June, reveals the Israeli army's practice of using Palestinian detainees in Gaza as human shields. The videos depict prisoners in Israeli military attire, equipped with body cameras, being coerced into inspecting buildings and tunnels to ensure they are free of explosives.
It's horrifying but not surprising, as Israel has been using Palestinian civilians as human shields for years.

In one video, two Palestinians are shown searching the debris of a demolished home for potential tunnel entrances, reporting back to soldiers that only soil and concrete were found. Another clip captures a prisoner compelled to enter a tunnel, connected by a wire held by Israeli soldiers above ground, while he alerts nearby resistance fighters that he is being used as bait.
A third video shows an injured prisoner, stripped of his clothes, entering a building under the surveillance of a drone to verify its safety and absence of combatants. This disturbing practice has a history in both the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, where Israeli soldiers have frequently employed Palestinian captives in such roles.

Earlier in June, social media circulated footage of a Palestinian detainee bound to the front of an Israeli military jeep during a raid in the West Bank. Since the onset of Israel's ground incursion into Gaza, thousands of Palestinian civilians, including women, children, and medical personnel, have been seized, with many still in custody. Those released often bear signs of mistreatment and harsh conditions within Israeli detention facilities, recounting harrowing experiences.
According to a report by Haaretz on 18 June, a senior Gaza doctor died under torture during interrogation by Israel's Shin Bet internal security service in November.
